In a Science Classroom
Science classrooms often also contain laboratory equipment for chemistry or biology experiments. You would expect to find these chemicals in this part of a school. OSHA has standards in places regarding chemical hygiene, which means that schools must handle and store chemicals in safe fashions. There also need to be eyewashes and safety showers in case of any incidents. Due to budget concerns, many expired chemicals are left behind in science classrooms and science labs. In Maintenance Closets
Another place where chemicals are commonly found is in maintenance closets and other storage areas. Cleaning supplies, paint, and lubricants are often kept in these areas until they are needed again. Oils are also kept here. Either way, these closets become another stockpile of potentially dangerous chemicals, which sometimes shouldn’t be stored near each other in case the fumes react or any leaks and spills can cause health hazards. All maintenance and storage areas should be held to the same standards as the classrooms and other parts of the school where these chemicals could be used.

Lastly, we come to the third area of any school where chemicals can be held. In this case, it is in an art classroom. Sometimes, lead-based paints will still be used or at least kept, again due to budget constraints. However, acrylic paints and watercolor paints are much safer and much less toxic. Photography classrooms and their associated darkrooms will also contain traces of silver, even with the rising popularity of digital photography. These classrooms must be inspected to make sure they are safe for the students, teachers, and visitors who will be entering them and using them for the rest of the school year.
